朝市あさいちに、
白しろい蕪かぶが静しずかに並ならぶ。
土つちの香かおりも届とどく。

At the morning market,
white turnips are neatly arranged.
Even the fragrance of the earth arrives.

畑はたけの土つちから、
さつま芋いもを掘ほり上あげる。
秋あきの贈おくり物もの。

From the garden soil,
sweet potatoes are lifted gently.
Autumn's gift.

細道ほそみちの先さき、
薮やぶで鶯うぐいすが鳴ないている。
春はるは見みえない。

Beyond the narrow path,
a bush warbler sings in the thicket.
Spring is heard before it is seen.

畑はたけの隅すみで、
蒜にんにくが静しずかに育そだつ。
力ちからは土つちの中なか。

In the corner of the garden,
garlic grows quietly.
Strength begins beneath the soil.

山道やまみちに、
若わかい蕨わらびが顔かおを出だす。
春はるの小ちいさな挨拶あいさつ。

Young bracken
peeks through the mountain path.
A small greeting from spring.

深ふかい森もりは、
緑みどりの息いきで満みちている。
静しずけさも育そだつ。

The deep forest
is filled with the breath of green.
Even silence grows.

茜色あかねいろの空そらが、
一日いちにちを静しずかに閉とじる。
鳥とりも家路いえじへ。

The madder-colored sky
gently closes the day.
The birds return home.

庭にわの片隅かたすみに、
小ちいさな花はなが微笑ほほえんでいる。
誰だれも急いそがない。

In a quiet corner of the garden,
a small flower seems to smile.
No one is in a hurry.

秋あきの森もりで、
落おち葉ばを拾ひろい集あつめる。
思おもい出でも一枚いちまいずつ。

In the autumn forest,
fallen leaves are gathered one by one.
Memories are collected the same way.

風かぜに揺ゆれる、
菅すげの原はらが光ひかりを渡わたす。
水辺みずべの午後ごご。

The sedge fields
sway gently in the wind.
An afternoon by the water.

川辺かわべの葦あしが、
夕風ゆうかぜに静しずかに歌うたう。
水みずも耳みみを澄すます。

The reeds beside the river
sing in the evening breeze.
Even the water listens.

古ふるい道みちが、
静しずかに旅人たびびとを導みちびいてゆく。
迷まよわなくていい。

The old road
quietly guides the traveler.
There is no need to hurry.

石畳いしだたみを、
ゆっくり辿たどって坂さかを上のぼる。
町まちが近ちかづく。

Following the stone path,
I climb the gentle hill.
The town draws near.

雨上あめあがり、
蔦つたが石垣いしがきを登のぼってゆく。
時ときは静しずかに進すすむ。

After the rain,
ivy climbs the old stone wall.
Time moves quietly.

遠回とおまわりの道みちも、
花はなが咲さいていれば嬉うれしい。
急いそがない旅たび。

Even the longer road
is welcome when flowers bloom.
There is no hurry.

山寺やまでらに、
鐘かねの音おとだけが残のこる。
静しずけさへ帰かえる。

At the mountain temple,
only the bell remains.
Returning to silence.

橋はしの上うえで、
久ひさしぶりに友ともと出会であう。
川かわも笑わらっている。

Upon the bridge,
old friends meet again.
Even the river smiles.

遥はるかな山並やまなみを、
列車れっしゃの窓まどから眺ながめる。
旅たびは続つづいてゆく。

From the train window,
distant mountain ranges unfold.
The journey goes on.

草原そうげんの空そらは、
どこまでも青あおく広ひろがる。
風かぜに終おわりはない。

Above the open fields,
the blue sky stretches without end.
The wind has no ending.

細ほそい谷道たにみちを、
川かわが静しずかに流ながれている。
近ちかさも美うつくしい。

Through the narrow valley,
the river flows quietly.
Beauty can be found in closeness.
