古ふるい鏡かがみに　香こうの煙けむりが漂ただよい
忘わすれられた時ときが　静しずかに残のこっていた

Incense drifted across the old mirror,
and forgotten time remained in silence.

石いしの水盤すいばんに　水みずが少すこしずつ満みち
静しずかな溢あふれが　夜よるを深ふかくしていた

Water slowly filled the stone basin,
and the gentle overflow deepened the night.

折おり重かさねた布ぬのが　静しずかに差さし出だされ
言葉ことばより先さきに　心こころが届とどいていた

Folded cloth was offered quietly,
and the heart arrived before words.

障子しょうじの向むこうに　淡あわい朝あさが広ひろがり
東ひがしの光ひかりが　長ながい廊下ろうかを満みたしていた

Pale morning spread beyond the shoji,
and eastern light filled the long corridor.

冬ふゆの空気くうきの中なかで　古ふるい棟木むなぎが伸のび
静しずかな屋根やねが　空そらを支ささえていた

In the winter air, the old ridgepole rose,
and the quiet roof supported the sky.

凍こおった水盤すいばんに　薄うすい氷こおりが広ひろがり
冷つめたい静寂せいじゃくが　石いしに染しみ込こんでいた

Thin ice spread across the frozen basin,
and cold silence soaked into the stone.

障子しょうじの向むこうで　両手りょうてが静しずかに重かさなり
小ちいさな命いのちが　灯あかりの中なかで眠ねむっていた

Behind the shoji, quiet hands rested together,
and a small life slept within the light.

長ながい広間ひろまに　足音あしおとだけが響ひびき
遠とおい権威けんいが　静しずかに座すわっていた

Only footsteps echoed through the long hall,
and distant authority sat in silence.

藍あいの水みずに　布ぬのがゆっくり沈しずみ
深ふかい色いろが　指先ゆびさきに残のこっていた

Cloth slowly sank into indigo water,
and deep color remained upon the fingertips.

暗くらい部屋へやで　炭すみが静しずかに赤あかく燃もえ
小ちいさな熱ねつだけが　夜よるを守まもっていた

In the dark room, charcoal glowed softly red,
and only a small warmth guarded the night.

濡ぬれた石道いしみちに　迎むかえの灯あかりが並ならび
静しずかな客人きゃくじんが　奥おくへ迎むかえられていた

Welcoming lanterns lined the wet stone path,
and the quiet guest was led within.

雪ゆきの向むこうで　除夜じょやの鐘かねが響ひびき
過すぎた一年いちねんが　静しずかに沈しずんでいった

Beyond the snow, the year-end bell echoed,
and the passing year slowly sank away.

霧きりの谷たにの下したに　小ちいさな町まちが広ひろがり
遠とおい景色けしきが　静しずかに呼吸こきゅうしていた

Below the misted valley, a small town spread outward,
and the distant landscape breathed quietly.

山やまの雨あめに　栃とちの葉はが濡ぬれ
深ふかい森もりだけが　静しずかに残のこっていた

Horse chestnut leaves glistened in mountain rain,
and only the deep forest remained.

濡ぬれた土つちと　石道いしみちが続つづき
足元あしもとの静しずけさが　世界せかいを支ささえていた

Wet earth and stone pathway continued onward,
and the silence beneath supported the world.

静しずかな池いけに　淡あわい空そらが映うつり
浮うかぶ葉はだけが　時ときを動うごかしていた

The pale sky reflected upon the quiet pond,
and only floating leaves moved time forward.

暗くらい草くさの間あいだで　小ちいさな命いのちが動うごき
露つゆの光ひかりだけが　静しずかに揺ゆれていた

Among the dark grass, tiny life stirred,
and only dew-light trembled softly.

深ふかい川辺かわべに　蛍ほたるの灯ひが浮うかび
青黒あおぐろい夜よるが　静しずかに呼吸こきゅうしていた

Firefly lights floated along the dark riverside,
and the blue-black night breathed softly.

濡ぬれた石いしの上うえで　蛇へびが静しずかに身みを巻まき
森もりの気配けはいだけが　雨あめに残のこっていた

Upon the wet stone, the serpent coiled quietly,
and only the forest's presence remained in the rain.

雨上あめあがりの霧きりに　淡あわい虹にじが現あらわれ
静しずかな水面みなもが　空そらを映うつしていた

Within the mist after rain, a pale rainbow appeared,
